passion for farming

Christophe Baron pioneered biodynamic practices in the Stones of the Walla Walla Valley, and they have been used across the estate since the 2005 vintage.

TERROIR

The extraordinarily deep stone soils of the Walla Walla Valley produce concentrated, mineral characters in the wines, reminiscent of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône.

2022 Hors Categorie Syrah

….a showstopper of a peppery, savory beast, unloading masses of flinty black currant, anise, caraway seed, menthol, and sage. It's youthfully dense yet sleek, with cooling acidity that supports its mineral-infused black fruits. A tinge of blood orange and a salty concentration add tremendous depth... I am completely in awe...The extended season packed this full of complexity

2023 Horsepower The Tribe Syrah

An amazing edition of this wine…opens with Hoisin sauce, tar, beef drippings, and orange zest alongside shades of Middle Eastern spices. The palate is elegant and refined with a silky mouthfeel and loads of texture and tension. A gorgeous wine to consume now, enjoy over the next eight to ten years.

2023 Horsepower High Contrast Syrah

I really loved this wine… the 2023. Inky, dark, and brooding…with bright underlying acidity that complements the high-toned red fruit and citrus. There's grip to the tannins and tension for days, but the white and black pepper is what really captures its varietal perfection beside the beautiful perfume and undeniable complexity. This should age for decades

2021 Champagne Christophe Baron Les Hautes Blanches Vignes

A pale straw/copper hue….reveals a more savory and mineral profile, leading with notes of smoky wet stones, saline, strawberries, bread dough, and spice…. It’s impressive already, but it will benefit from another year or more in bottle and has the structure to improve over the coming 15 or so years. Disgorged April 2024, and 1215 magnums were produced.

2023 Cayuse Wallah Wallah Special Syrah #18

A stunning wine....is a fabulous, complex, and delicious 1.5-liter bottling .... on the nose this takes on layers of Umami, seaweed and oyster sauce that combine with blood orange zest, iodine, green peppercorns, and shades of prosciutto.

2023 Cayuse Impulsivo Tempranillo

Another exceptional vintage…all varietal and balanced throughout in balsamic-laced black and red fruit. Grown at high elevation, the grapes were planted in 2000 and are rare in the state.…it's a remarkably graceful yet powerful wine, richly medium-bodied with structure and firm tannins that add complexity to the rounded mouthfeel of gamey umami. This is just so good…
